  • We appreciate at least 1week  notice when canceling appointment times for cup season

  •  Not only does not showing up take money out of your stylist’s pocket and prevent them from being able to fill your spot with someone else who may be trying to get in, but it also says to them that you don’t respect them or their time, and no one likes to feel like that.

  • if you need to add more services in your appointmnet time please call in advance  to see if we can fit you in or rescudule another time to fit it all in.

Headwear Cheat-Sheet:

Picking The Right Headpiece For Your Face Shape

Unless we’re being particularly sun-smart, accessorising our outfits with hats and headpieces is not something most of us do very often. This leaves most people in a quandary when it comes to choosing the all-important headwear component of race-day outfits!

With the Spring Racing Carnival finish line looming in our sights, it’s time to get cracking if you want to find that perfect headpiece for Melbourne Cup or any of the race days which follow.

Whilst there are never any hard and fast rules when it comes to style, when time is of the essence a little cheat-sheet works wonders!

The following guide will ensure you get your headwear game right the first time, so read on…

First thing's first: know your face shape

Colours aside, when it comes to finding a suitable hat or headpiece, the most important thing to consider is your face shape. Are you an oval, oblong, round, heart or square?

Once you’ve found your face shape, it’s a matter of highlighting it’s best features:

Oval Faces – Think: Charlize Theron, Halle Berry, Eva Longoria, Megan Fox, Julia Roberts.

Luck is already on your side, because oval faces can pull off just about any type of hat or headpiece with confidence!

As with all headwear though, balance is key. If you have more prominent features consider wearing a hat with a slightly larger brim, and if you have more petite features, scale down.

Soft-featured oval faces can carry angled headwear whereas more heavily-featured faces suit soft shapes and accents such as lace, flowers and feathers.

Oblong Face – Think: Jessica Alba, Sarah Jessica Parker, Elle Macpherson, Kate Beckinsale.

With an oblong face, your objective is to add width to the face by shortening it. Consider a hat that covers down to your eyebrows to shorten the appearance.

You may also want to tilt the brim of your hat forwards. Not only will this balance your face’s longer shape, it’s a sultry and mysterious touch that other shapes can’t so easily get away with!

Veils and headpieces that cover the forehead are definite winners for those with an oblong face.

Round Face - Think: Kirsten Dunst, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Cameron Diaz, Christina Ricci, Mila Kunis, Michelle Williams.

Round faces should opt for stronger angles and sharp lines as these best balance your face’s proportions.

You may want to avoid straight fronted styles which will widen your face. Angled fascinators and netted veils which cover one eye are winners, as are tall hats or headpieces which draw the eye up and down.

Heart Face – Think: Scarlett Johansson, Kim Kardashian, Reese Witherspoon, Jennifer Lopez, Lisa Kudrow.

Similar to a round face, those with heart-shaped faces may want to avoid hats and headpieces that cut across horizontally.

Look for petite tilted hats that show off the eyes. You may also opt for headwear that has a prominent crown to make your forehead appear narrower.

Square Face – Think: Angelina Jolie, Gwyneth Paltrow, Miranda Kerr, Katie Holmes, Demi Moore.

To add softness to your square face, look for rounded shapes and avoid headwear that is too angular.

Larger framed ladies have the benefit of choosing more elaborate wide-brimmed hats. Smaller-featured ladies may want to look for headpieces that draw attention to the mouth and chin.
